The nature of the work and the need to maintain weather protection at all times to keep the shop trading and residents housed meant a fully enclosed scaffold and temporary roof of large scale to all sides, the rear of the building not being accessible meant a detailed method needed to be designed to cantilever and hang substantial areas of scaffolds which was challenging to carry out in these confines.
The project involved removing the old front and rear roof mansard structure and replacing with new slate finishes including all the flat roof areas with new upgraded insulation and a Sarnafil single ply membrane. There were significant structural upgrades to the internal structure to accommodate new rolling storage facilities and server room equipment.
The existing external window structures were enlarged to provide improved light levels within the office areas. The internal fit out was to a high standard and of complex interior design to provide an aesthetically pleasing environment for the new offices, which involved many differing internal finishes including glazed walls / partitions, light walls and light tunnels, and high quality spray painted joinery surfaces.
The external façade was given a new look with a crisp looking Sto render finish combined with a new granite main entrance frontage, the overall impression being impressive and a pleasing upgrade from the old building both inside and out.
